Final BTO renovation walkthrough: a comprehensive checklist

A Building and Renovation (BTO) walkthrough is a detailed inspection of your newly renovated or built home to identify any defects or incomplete work before final acceptance.
Schedule your walkthrough with your contractor a few days before the final payment is due, allowing time for them to rectify any issues found.
Bring your renovation contract, floor plan, defect checklist (if any), measuring tape, and a camera or smartphone to document any issues.
Focus on checking the quality of workmanship, alignment of tiles and fixtures, functionality of doors and windows, paintwork, electrical points, plumbing, and overall cleanliness.
Clearly mark the defects with painters tape, take photos or videos, and note them down in a detailed defect list to be submitted to your contractor.
Your contractor should provide a timeline for rectifying the defects. Schedule a follow-up inspection to ensure the issues have been properly addressed.
Refer to your renovation contract for dispute resolution clauses. You may need to seek mediation or legal advice if the issue cannot be resolved amicably.
